Europa League Review – Thursday, 15 October 2026
By Swoosh0018 | Sublime Football
What a night of European Football!
Goals, drama, comebacks and some very interesting results across Europe. The Europa League certainly delivered on Thursday night, with Juventus showing character in Spain, Benfica making a statement against Celtic and Bournemouth continuing their European adventure in style.
Some big teams impressed, others struggled, and a few results will certainly raise questions.
Let’s get into the action.
Juventus Show Character Against Celta Vigo – Forza Juve!
Celta Vigo 1–2 Juventus
Now this is the kind of fighting spirit we want to see from Juventus!
Playing away in Spain is never easy, and Celta Vigo certainly made life difficult for the Italian giants.
But Juventus found a way back.
Nick Woltemade and Randal Kolo Muani delivered the goals as the Bianconeri turned things around to secure an important 2–1 victory.
Kolo Muani’s contribution was particularly important, with his late winner completing the comeback.
This was not necessarily a perfect Juventus performance, but European football is about results, character and knowing how to win difficult matches.
Two games, two victories in the Europa League.
There is still plenty of work to do, especially in terms of consistency, but the signs are encouraging.
Forza Juve! Let’s keep this momentum going.
Benfica Too Strong for Celtic
Benfica 4–1 Celtic
What a performance from Benfica!
The Portuguese giants were simply too strong for Celtic, producing an impressive attacking display in Lisbon.
Jhon Durán was one of the stars of the evening, scoring twice as Benfica ran out convincing winners.
Celtic had their moments, particularly after the break, but defensively they were far too vulnerable.
You cannot afford to give a team like Benfica that much space and expect to survive.
For Benfica, this was another excellent European result after their opening victory against Milan.
For Celtic, serious questions need to be asked.
Two defeats from two Europa League matches. Not the start their supporters would have wanted.
Bournemouth Make European History
Bournemouth 3–0 Sturm Graz
Who would have imagined Bournemouth enjoying nights like this a few years ago?
The Cherries celebrated their first European home match with an impressive 3–0 victory over Sturm Graz.
Evanilson opened the scoring before Rayan and Álvaro Rodríguez added to the celebrations.
What an occasion for the Bournemouth supporters!
Two victories from two Europa League matches, and suddenly this European adventure is becoming very interesting.
Their next challenge against AC Milan will be a serious test.
But for now, Bournemouth deserve their moment.
Fantastic achievement!
Lyon Edge Crystal Palace in Five-Goal Thriller
Lyon 3–2 Crystal Palace
One of the most entertaining matches of the night.
Lyon took control with goals from Corentin Tolisso and Ernest Nuamah, but Crystal Palace refused to surrender.
Yéremy Pino pulled one back before Pavel Šulc restored Lyon’s two-goal advantage.
Daichi Kamada gave Palace hope late in the game, but the French side held on.
Palace showed attacking quality in the second half, although their defensive performance will be a concern.
Lyon were clinical when it mattered.
An entertaining contest, but Palace will feel they could have taken something from this match.
AC Milan Send a Warning
Salzburg 0–4 AC Milan
Now that is how you respond in Europe!
After losing their opening Europa League match against Benfica, Milan bounced back with a commanding victory in Austria.
Young Alphadjo Cissè stole the show with a superb hat-trick, while Gonçalo Ramos added the fourth.
A brilliant individual performance from Cissè.
Milan needed a result, and they certainly delivered.
The question now is whether they can maintain this level of performance as the competition progresses.
Bayer Leverkusen Mean Business
Lech Poznań 0–4 Bayer Leverkusen
Another convincing German performance.
Bayer Leverkusen dismantled Lech Poznań with a ruthless attacking display.
Patrik Schick scored twice from the penalty spot, while Malik Tillman and Ibrahim Maza also found the net.
Four goals away from home in European competition is always impressive.
Leverkusen are looking like a serious contender, and their early results suggest they have every intention of going deep into this competition.
Very impressive.
Sunderland Leave It Late
Torreense 1–2 Sunderland
What a result for Sunderland!
European away matches can be unpredictable, and Sunderland had to dig deep to secure all three points.
Noah Sadiki produced a memorable late moment to help the English side claim victory.
These are the kinds of results that can make a difference later in the competition.
Not every victory needs to be beautiful.
Sometimes you simply have to fight until the final whistle.
Well done, Sunderland!
Other Europa League Results
There was plenty more action across Europe.
- Hoffenheim 2–3 Beşiktaş
- Marseille 0–1 Olympiacos
- Ferencváros 2–1 Viktoria Plzeň
- GNK Dinamo 1–0 Anderlecht
- Jagiellonia 3–1 Ararat-Armenia
- Rennes 2–1 OFI Crete
- AZ Alkmaar 2–1 Hapoel Beer-Sheva
- Celje 0–3 Omonia
- Sparta Praha 1–1 Lillestrøm
- Union Saint-Gilloise 1–1 Real Sociedad
- NEC Nijmegen 1–1 Levski Sofia
A very interesting set of results.
Olympiacos deserve credit for winning away at Marseille, while Beşiktaş produced another impressive attacking performance in Germany.
Omonia’s 3–0 victory away at Celje also deserves recognition.
This competition is already showing that there will be no easy matches.
My Thoughts – Who Impressed the Most?
For me, several teams deserve special mention.
Juventus: A comeback victory away from home. The fighting spirit was there, and Kolo Muani made the difference.
Benfica: Four goals against Celtic. A very strong statement from the Portuguese giants.
Bournemouth: European history and another victory. Their supporters must be loving every minute.
AC Milan: A fantastic response after their opening defeat. Cissè was outstanding.
Bayer Leverkusen: Clinical, confident and looking very dangerous.
But I also have concerns about Celtic and Crystal Palace defensively.
There is plenty of football still to play, but mistakes at this level can be costly.
Final Thoughts – The Europa League Is Heating Up!
What a Thursday night!
The Europa League continues to remind us why European football is so special.
Big names, unexpected results, brilliant individual performances and plenty of drama.
Juventus continue their winning start, Benfica look dangerous, Bournemouth are making history and Bayer Leverkusen are showing real ambition.
There is still a long way to go before we discover who will lift the trophy, but the early signs suggest we could be in for a fascinating campaign.
For my Juventus, the important thing is to keep winning and building confidence.
The performances can improve, but the fighting spirit must remain.
Forza Juventus!
Until the next round, enjoy the beautiful game.
