There is something undeniably decadent about a brisket burger. By combining rich, tender, slow-cooked shredded brisket with a juicy handcrafted beef patty, you get a double layer of beefy perfection that elevates a standard burger into gourmet territory.
Ingredients
For the Brisket Topping:
Halaal Beef Brisket: 1 kg (flat cut), trimmed of excess hard fat
Brisket Rub: 1 tbsp smoked paprika, 1 tbsp brown sugar, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp onion powder, 1 tsp kosher salt, and 1 tsp freshly cracked black pepper
Beef Broth: 1 cup (Halaal-certified)
Worcestershire Sauce: 1 tbsp (anchovy-free / Halaal-certified alternative)
For the Beef Patties:
Ground Beef: 600g (80/20 chuck or brisket grind for maximum juiciness)
Salt & Pepper: To taste
For the Assembly & Toppings:
Burger Buns: 4 brioche buns (ensure Halaal-certified or egg-washed bakery style)
Cheese: 4 slices of cheddar or smoked provolone cheese
Caramelized Onions: 2 large red onions, sliced thin and sautéed slowly in butter until sweet and golden
Smokey BBQ Mayo: 1/2 cup mayonnaise mixed with 2 tbsp of your favorite Halaal smoky BBQ sauce
Lettuce: Crisp butter lettuce leaves
Tomato: 4 thick slices
Instructions
Step 1: Slow-Cook the Brisket
Preheat your oven to 150°C (300°F).
Season the brisket: Mix the dry rub ingredients together and massage them generously all over the brisket.
Braised Method: Place the brisket in a roasting pan, pour the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce around the base (not over the top, to keep the rub intact), and cover the pan tightly with heavy-duty foil.
Bake: Cook in the oven for about 2.5 to 3 hours, or until the meat is fork-tender and easily pulls apart.
Shred: Remove from the oven, let it rest for 15 minutes, then use two forks to shred the beef. Toss the shredded brisket back into its flavorful pan juices.
Step 2: Form and Sear the Patties
Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and gently shape them into patties slightly wider than your burger buns. Make a slight dimple in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent them from puffing up into a ball while cooking.
Season both sides generously with salt and pepper.
Heat a cast-iron skillet or griddle over high heat with a touch of oil. Cook the patties for about 3–4 minutes on the first side until a nice crust forms, flip, and top each with a slice of cheese. Cook for another 2–3 minutes until cooked to your liking.
Step 3: Toast the Buns
Slice your brioche buns and toast them lightly on the same skillet with a little butter until golden brown.
Step 4: Build the Ultimate Burger
Spread: Slather a generous amount of Smokey BBQ Mayo on both the top and bottom halves of the toasted brioche buns.
Base: Lay down a crisp leaf of butter lettuce and a slice of tomato on the bottom bun.
The Patty: Place the hot, cheese-topped beef patty right on top.
The Brisket: Heap a generous mound of the warm, slow-cooked shredded brisket over the patty.
The Finishing Touch: Crown the brisket with a spoonful of sweet caramelized onions.
Serve: Place the top bun down, press gently, and serve immediately with hand-cut fries or onion rings!
