There are draws that feel like defeats.
And there are draws that feel like escapes.
For Juventus, this was probably a bit of both.
Against AC Milan at the Allianz Stadium, Juve controlled long periods, created the better chances, hit the post and forced Mike Maignan into several saves. Then, with 20 minutes left, they found themselves behind.
Football can be cruel like that.
But Federico Gatti had the final word.
His 92nd-minute header rescued a 1-1 draw and made sure Juventus did not leave their own stadium empty-handed. Milan had taken the lead through Alphadjo Cissé in the 69th minute, before Gatti powered home Teun Koopmeiners’ late cross.
Juventus started like the team that wanted it more
From the opening stages, Juventus looked sharper.
Francisco Conceição was the biggest problem for Milan. He kept attacking his man, kept finding space and repeatedly forced the Rossoneri defence backwards.
Mike Maignan had to save from Nico González and Conceição early on, while Juve kept pushing without finding the finish their play deserved.
That became the story of their night.
Plenty of pressure.
Not enough punishment.
After half-time, Conceição came even closer when his shot smashed against the base of the post in the 55th minute. Juventus finished with 14 shots to Milan’s three, including five on target compared with Milan’s one.
Those numbers tell you plenty.
Juve were the more aggressive side.
Milan were the more clinical one.
Cissé changes everything
For all Juventus’ pressure, Milan needed only one proper opening.
And they took it.
Samuel Chukwueze broke forward and switched the play to Alphadjo Cissé, who controlled brilliantly, moved inside Manuel Locatelli and drilled his finish into the far corner.
One chance.
One goal.
Suddenly the Allianz Stadium was quiet.
It was also a significant goal: Milan had not scored against Juventus in Serie A since Olivier Giroud did so in May 2023.
This is exactly what makes these big Serie A games so dangerous.
You can dominate for an hour.
Switch off once.
And suddenly you are chasing the match.

Juventus kept going.
Jeremie Boga tested Maignan. Nick Woltemade came on for his Bianconeri debut. Teun Koopmeiners gave Juve more delivery from deeper positions.
Then, in stoppage time, the breakthrough finally came.
Koopmeiners whipped the ball towards the back post and Gatti rose to head Juventus level.
The defender was reportedly expected to leave during the summer.
Instead, he stayed.
And in one of the biggest games of Juve’s early season, he delivered the moment that saved them.
That is football.
Plans change quickly.

Spalletti will like the attitude — but not the finishing
Luciano Spalletti’s post-match reaction probably summed up Juventus perfectly.
He praised the way his side pressed, raised the tempo and tried to control the game, but admitted the decision-making still has to improve. His message was clear: in matches like this, Juventus cannot wait for opportunities to arrive — they have to take them.
Manuel Locatelli made a similar point.
Juventus played well.
The substitutes made an impact.
But the team needs to become more ruthless inside the penalty area.
That is the main concern.
Because if Juve produce 14 shots against Milan and still need a 92nd-minute equaliser, the issue is not creating chances.
It is finishing them.
Milan will probably take the point
For Milan, this was a strange night.
They were second best statistically and spent long spells defending, but they still came within minutes of leaving Turin with all three points.
That says something about their efficiency.
It also says something about the areas they still need to improve.
They managed only three attempts all night and one on target. Ruben Amorim later admitted Milan did not really deserve to win the game.
For a team with ambitions of challenging at the top of Serie A, that attacking output will need to improve.
Still, taking a point away at Juventus is rarely a disaster.
What this result tells us
Both clubs had started the season with two victories, so this was their first dropped points of the new campaign.
And in some ways, the game told us more than another comfortable win would have.
Juventus look capable of controlling big matches.
Milan look dangerous when given even half a chance.
But neither side looks fully polished yet.
For Juve, the problem is ruthlessness.
For Milan, the problem is creating enough.
The margins at the top of Serie A are tiny.
And against rivals like these, wasted chances eventually become dropped points.
Serie A round-up
Elsewhere, it was another lively weekend in Italy.
Inter edged Napoli 3-2, Roma defeated Atalanta 2-1, while Bologna and Sassuolo shared a 2-2 draw. Torino also picked up an impressive 2-1 away victory over Fiorentina.
It is early.
But Serie A already looks like it could become seriously congested at the top.
Juventus and Milan remain very much in the conversation.
Neither, though, will leave Turin completely satisfied.

Milan will look at the 92nd minute and think two points lost.
That is usually the sign of a good draw.
And judging by this first meeting, Juventus versus Milan could have a much bigger role to play in deciding where the Scudetto ends up in 2026/27.
