The second weekend of the 2026/27 Premier League season starts tonight, Friday 28 August, with Crystal Palace hosting Manchester City. Ten matches are spread through Monday. Some of the Sublime Matches to look forward to
Crystal Palace vs Manchester City (20:00 BST). Palace have a difficult first home league assignment under Pierre Sage against Enzo Maresca’s City. This is the headline game tonight, with City’s attacking quality making them favourites, but Selhurst Park can make this awkward.
Swoosh Prediction: Palace 1–2 Man City.
Saturday: Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest (12:30) is particularly interesting tactically, with Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White capable of testing Liverpool’s midfield. Bournemouth vs Everton and Coventry vs Hull follow at 15:00; the latter already looks like an important game between two promoted sides. Tottenham vs Newcastle (17:30) is Saturday’s standout, including Spurs’ new £100m signing Sandro Tonali facing his former club.
Swoosh Prediction: Liverpool 2–1 Forest; Bournemouth 1–1 Everton; Coventry 1–1 Hull; Spurs 2–2 Newcastle.
Sunday: Chelsea vs Brighton (14:00) could be one of the weekend’s best games—Brighton opened the season with a 4–0 win and currently sit top on goal difference. Leeds vs Brentford and Sunderland vs Fulham are also at 14:00. Manchester United vs Ipswich (16:30) puts early pressure on Michael Carrick’s United after a poor opening result. Swoosh Predictions: Chelsea 2–2 Brighton; Leeds 1–2 Brentford; Sunderland 1–1 Fulham; Man Utd 2–0 Ipswich.

Arsenal began their title defence with a 3–0 victory and should provide a strong early indication of whether they can maintain last season’s level away from home.

As we carry on with our footy preview in LA LIGA Tonight brings Racing Santander–Elche and Alavés–Villarreal. Saturday’s headline match is Sevilla–Atlético Madrid, while Sunday features Real Madrid–Málaga. The round concludes Monday with Barcelona–Rayo Vallecano.
The Sevilla–Atlético match looks like the best test of the weekend: Sevilla have started 2–0–0, while Atlético need a win to avoid losing further early ground to Barça and Madrid.

Milan opened with a 2–1 victory at Torino and now make their home debut under Ruben Amorim. Venezia represent a game Milan should control if they have genuine title ambitions.

Juventus won 1–0 at Frosinone on Matchday 1. They weren’t spectacular, but this is another fixture where they should have enough quality. Ofcourse this is my team and with Yildiz injured eish its a long road ahead for Juventus this year. But the blood is black and white and we are there till the end

Napoli vs Como — 18:30 ⭐
One of the most interesting matches. Massimiliano Allegri’s Napoli started with a 2–0 victory over Genoa, while Como drew their opener with Udinese. Napoli should dominate possession and chances at home.

Cagliari vs Inter — 20:45 ⭐
Defending champions Inter started explosively, beating Monza 4–1. Cagliari also won their opener, 1–0 at Parma, so this isn’t necessarily straightforward. Inter nevertheless won both meetings between the teams last season.

The rivalry resumes Saturday, 29 August 2026 at DHL Stadium, Cape Town, kicking off at 17:10 SAST. New Zealand lead the four-Test series 1–0 after beating South Africa 33–16 at Ellis Park last weekend.
This has the feel of a response game for South Africa. They actually had significant success at the scrum and in the physical exchanges at Ellis Park, but handling errors, decision-making and poor conversion of opportunities allowed New Zealand to pull away. There are important late team changes. Handré Pollard is out with a calf strain, meaning Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu starts at fly-half. Cheslin Kolbe has recovered sufficiently to start on the right wing, replacing Kurt-Lee Arendse. Siya Kolisi returns to captain the side.
Springboks XV: Willemse; Kolbe, Kriel, De Allende, Hooker; Feinberg-Mngomezulu, Reinach; Wiese, Pieter-Steph du Toit, Kolisi; Nortje, Etzebeth; Wilco Louw, Marx, Nche.
The Bok strategy should still revolve around scrum pressure, collisions, territorial kicking and squeezing New Zealand’s discipline, but Sacha at 10 gives them more attacking unpredictability than the originally planned Pollard selection.
New Zealand arrive with confidence after scoring five tries to South Africa’s one in Johannesburg.
Dave Rennie’s side includes Cam Roigard at scrum-half and Ruben Love at fly-half, with Jordie Barrett and Quinn Tupaea in midfield. Ardie Savea captains from No.8, alongside Luke Jacobson and Simon Parker.
Their major challenge is obvious: surviving the Springbok scrum. South Africa extracted six scrum penalties in the first Test, and New Zealand have subsequently raised concerns with World Rugby about aspects of the Bok technique.
If the All Blacks can obtain cleaner possession, however, their ability to increase the tempo and attack away from South Africa’s forward strength could again cause problems.
Where the Test could be won?
Scrum: Clear South African advantage based on Test 1. If that continues, the Boks need to turn penalties into points rather than waste the field position.
Sacha vs Love: A fascinating young-flyhalf contest. Sacha offers South Africa running and attacking creativity, but managing territory against New Zealand will be just as important.
Breakdown: Savea against Kolisi, Du Toit and Wiese is heavyweight stuff. Quick All Black ball makes them extremely dangerous; slowing it down will be central to the Bok plan.
Discipline: New Zealand conceded 14 penalties in Johannesburg. Repeating that in Cape Town could be costly.
Last 20 minutes: South Africa’s bench contains Deon Fourie, Thomas du Toit, Lood de Jager, André Esterhuizen and Cameron Hanekom. If the scores are close after an hour, the Bok replacement forwards could become decisive.
Swoosh Prediction
I expect a much tighter Test than the 33–16 opener. South Africa should try to turn this into a physical, territorial contest rather than allow New Zealand prolonged periods of high-tempo rugby.
Springboks 27–23 All Blacks
The biggest wildcard is Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu. Pollard’s late withdrawal changes the complexion of the Bok attack: there’s potentially more creativity, but also greater game-management responsibility on Sacha in a massive Test.
